Blind To The Struggle
Piles of clothes in closet, organizing closets, purge

For nine years I kept my sweatshirts on a shelf so high I needed a step stool to reach them. Every day I struggled to get what I needed without clothes falling in my face and having to keep tossing them back up. I just... lived with it.

(I do this for a living. And still I was blind to my own system needing fixing!)

It wasn't until I got a shoulder injury and my doctor told me to stop reaching overhead that I actually stopped and thought, wait, why are they up there? I added a lower shelf. Problem solved. Nine years late.

Bad systems go invisible. You get so used to the step stool that you stop seeing the step stool. The friction becomes background noise and you just keep working around it without realizing it doesn't have to be that way.

The fix is usually simple. The hard part is stopping long enough to see the problem. Or asking for someone else to take a look.

You don't have to wait until something hurts to make a change. And having a fresh perspective definitely helps.

If you need a fresh set of eyes to find your high shelf struggle, let's talk.
